Creating a Sonic Haven – Equality and Connection: How Music Works with Dementia A Cello Recital/Talk Provided by Dr Claire Garabedian

*Date/Time: Saturday 7 November - 7pm BST (11am PST) (1pm CST) (2pm EST) Where: Zoom Only!
*(recording available for 2 weeks after live event for all ticket holders)

Join Claire for an evening of solo cello music played and experience first-hand how receptive listening to music can foster engagement/connection and wellbeing of people who are living with dementia (and all of us). A professional cellist, trained and active therapeutic musician, and a postdoctoral researcher specialising this topic, Claire combines interesting anecdotes, scientific information, and live examples to illustrate how and why music is such a powerful conduit towards sonically creating a ‘haven’ wherein all who are listening can engage and connect; regardless of cognitive/physical conditions.
Programme: This will be an eclectic evening; likely including a bit of JS Bach and other classical works, but also Celtic and improvised music – expect the unexpected! Audience: This unique format offers a new way of experiencing and listening to familiar and unfamiliar music. This will NOT be a ‘highbrow’ concert! It is informal and friendly; NO need for prior experience of classical music/concerts! Claire will allow time for audience interactions after (and indeed during) this event. This recital/talk will be enjoyed by people familiar and fond of classical music; who never listen to/have no prior interest in classical music; have dementia or other cognitive conditions; children of all ages; people who care for and about people living with dementia and other cognitive conditions… everyone really! All you need bring is a set of willing, open, and curious ears. This event will last for approximately 1-hour. *Date/Time: Saturday 7 November - 7pm GMT (11am PST) (1pm CST) (2pm EST) Where: Zoom
*Recording available for two weeks to all ticket holders

Feedback from Claire’s previous virtual recital/talks:

“I loved your concert on Saturday.  It’s the first time I have seen you play your cello and it was magical.  You are amazing and the music was so beautiful it made me cry (literally!).  I am not an expert in classical music so I was a bit scared that I would be out of my depth but I didn’t feel like that in the slightest.  I can’t stop thinking about how you played ‘you are my sunshine’ and it made me feel strong emotions every time you played it but each so different.  It was incredibly powerful.…I could see lots of other people’s faces while you were playing and you had so much support and love – hopefully it all seeped through cyberspace.  It was a huge success, I sort of forgot I was watching via a screen because it felt live.  I will definitely come again if you do other virtual concerts. Loved it.”

“The girls absolutely loved the recital- particularly…my eldest, she drew your cello and some other pictures while you were playing. I’ve also spotted her trying to play her violin as a cello since so you’ve obviously inspired her! I thoroughly enjoyed the recital too the cello has always been one of my favourite instruments to listen too, such a beautiful sound- you are so talented.”

“Thank you, Claire. It was wonderful. Such a mood booster – it should be on prescription. Absolutely beautiful recital – I loved it…I enjoyed seeing all the other participants on their webcams – and I felt privileged to be part of an international community in these difficult times.”
